Manchester United have ‘no plans’ to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer despite Man City loss

The Manchester United boss came under huge pressure following their humiliating 5-0 loss to Liverpool last month and many expected Saturday’s derby day defeat against Manchester City to be the final nail in the coffin for the Norwegian.

However, Sky Sports News have reported that the Red Devils have no plans to sack their manager despite their current form.

Former Manchester United defender, Gary Neville, spoke out following the weekend’s match suggesting any replacement wouldn’t be brought in until Ed Woodard’s departure at the end of the year - however it now looks like this will have no affect on Solskjaer’s position.

The Premier League giants have had a tricky start to the campaign despite the arrivals of Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho.

The calibre of players brought into the club during the summer meant even higher expectations for the Red Devils - much higher than the sixth place league position they currently find themselves in.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the City defeat, Solskjaer was asked whether he felt like he was on borrowed time at Old Trafford.

The 48-year-old said: "No, I don't start to feel like that.

"I have good communication all the time with the club that's very upfront and honest about the situation.

"I'm sure when we come back the players will be fresh in their minds from internationals, and of course the demands on the players, on me, are going to be high.

"We've just got to get back to what we started to look like and what we were for a while. We've got the players to do that.

"We've been through this a few times. Since the last game we played here [Liverpool defeat], it's been a very difficult period and we've gone away from what we used to be. We need to be on the front foot more, I can't look at myself and say this is the way I want Manchester United to play."

Manchester United will prepare to take on Watford in their first Premier League fixture after the international break, before they face tough tests in Villarreal, Chelsea and Arsenal.
