The UK government confirmed yesterday that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has been sanctioned due to his links with Russian president Vladimir Putin.
This means that the billionaire’s sale of the club will now be put on hold, while he is also unable to make any profits from the Premier League club - meaning they can’t sell tickets, sign players or offer new contracts.
Chelsea have a number of players - including some of their main stars - out of contract this summer and could face losing them for nothing if Abramovich still remains at the club.

5. Andreas Christensen
Andreas Christensen has become a useful player to Thomas Tuchel and has made 15 league appearances this season. The defender had been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona prior to Roman Abramovich’s sanctions.
6. Cesar Azpilicueta
Cesar Azpilicueta’s potential departure would be heartbreaking for Chelsea fans, with their captain a pivotal figure during the 10 years he has been with the club. However, there have been rumours that Chelsea triggered a one-year extension in his contract.
7. Antonio Rudiger
Antonio Rudiger has been one of Chelsea’s most important players in recent seasons, however he looked like he could well depart Stamford Bridge regardless of the club’s future. The likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are all interested.
8. Saul Niguez
Saul joined Chelsea on loan in the summer and has made eight league appearances, enduring a pretty disappointing spell in London despite improving of late. The Blues had an option-to-buy clause in his contract, however it was unlikely they would have triggered it.
