Rob Page’s side play the biggest match in their recent history and need a win to take a step closer to the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar.

The international break is here and Wales have started their preparations ahead of the most significant fixture in several years for their nation.

Wales have only ever qualified for the World Cup finals once, way back in 1958, but they are just two games away from booking a place in Qatar later this year.

To get there they first need to overcome Austria and a win will set up a play-off final against either Scotland or Ukraine in the future.

Wales’ 2022 World Cup qualifying play-off match with Austria will be played on Thursday, March 24 2022.

The game is being played at the Cardiff City Stadium and is scheduled for a 19:45 kick off (UK time).

What channel is Wales v Austria on?

Sky Sports will show the match and it will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Main Event with coverage starting from 19:00 (UK time).

The fixture will also be free to watch on Welsh language channel S4C.

Will Wales face Scotland?

The winner of the match will face either Scotland or Ukraine in Cardiff for one of the last remaining spots at the World Cup finals.

The play-off final was originally supposed to take place this international window, but the ongoing conflict in Ukraine has seen their match with Scotland postponed.

Those two nations are now expected to face off in June and the winner of Wales v Austria will be waiting for them in the final.

The loser of the match will not be going to Qatar and will head to Hampden Park in this international window for a friendly with Scotland.

The match looks almost too close to call with the bookmakers but it is Austria who, somewhat surprisingly, are the narrow favourites.
