It was an ultimately disappointing Africa Cup of Nations for Mo Salah as Egypt were beaten on penalties in the final by Senegal.

The 29-year old is now set to return from international duty, along with club-mate Sadio Mane who did lift the trophy with his nation, but will he be available for Liverpool’s next Premier League fixture?

The Reds face Leicester City at Anfield on Thursday (February 10) in what could be Salah’s first match for the club since their 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on January 2.

When does Mo Salah return to Liverpool from AFCON?

The 2022 Africa Cup of Nations concluded on Sunday (February 6) when Senegal beat Egypt 4-2 on penalties in the final after a 0-0 draw.

Reports have suggested that Salah returned to Liverpool swiftly after the defeat while Sadio Mane remained with his Senegal teammates to celebrate their win a little while longer.

The Egyptian was expected to return to training with his club on Tuesday as the Reds get ready for their first Premier League match since beating Crystal Palace 3-1 at Selhurst Park on January 23.

Will Mo Salah play against Leicester City?

Liverpool host Leicester City at Anfield in their next Premier League match on Thursday (February 9).

With Mo Salah back training it is likely that the 29-year old would be in contention to line-up against the Foxes.

The players appears to have avoided picking up any injury problems while at the Africa Cup of Nations and was expected to participate in a light recovery session on Tuesday.

Salah has scored 23 goals in 26 Premier League matches this season so it’s unlikely that Jurgen Klopp will leave him on the sidelines if he is indeed fit and ready to go.

However, Sadio Mane is less likely to feature in the match if reports are accurate that he remained with Senegal until Monday to celebrate their AFCON victory.

The decision certainly involves elements of risk, although Salah appears fit and healthy following the Africa Cup on Nations it could be the case that he has returned to Anfield with an as yet unidentified issue which may require attention.

However, it is equally if not more likely that the Egyptian is fit and ready to start for the Reds against Leicester City on Thursday night.

Salah is currently the highest scoring player in Fantasy Premier League with 177 points accumulated so far.

He is ahead of teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold in second with 144 points and Manchester City midfielder João Cancelo who is third with 134 points.

West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen is fourth with 12 points and Diego Jota makes it thee Reds in the top five with 109 points.
