What should runners wear for the London Marathon?

Due to the chance of rain, the Virgin Money London Marathon recommends bringing a hat and a pair of gloves in order to help prevent heat loss.

Chilly hands can be a very uncomfortable distraction and can affect your overall body temperature. If the conditions warm up, they can be removed and stashed away easily.

Additionally, some lightweight cover-up pieces, such as a long-sleeved T-shirt, are recommended due to the mild temperatures.

It is also important to have already worn and washed the clothes you are likely to wear for the big day before the event so as to ensure you are comfortable in them.

The London Marathon takes place Sunday 3 October with the first start time at 9.30am. It will be available to watch on BBC 1 from 8.30am.
