Emma Raducanu suffered another setback in her bid to recapture her US Open-winning form after crashing out of Guadalajara’s Abierto Akron Zapopan in the first round.

The Brit was forced to retire from her match with 610th-ranked Daria Saville due to a hip injury, and now faces a nervous wait to see if she will be fit enough to compete in Monterrey’s upcoming Abierto GNP Seguros.

The competition will be contested by 32 players in the singles draw and 16 teams of doubles on a hard court surface, with a substantial prize fund on offer.

Raducanu’s exit at the hands of Saville marked yet another stroke of misfortune for the teenager.

In recent months, she has also had to battle a bout of Covid, as well as bowing out of the Australian Open while suffering with a painful blister on her palm.

Prior to her retirement in Guadalajara, Raducanu had been embroiled in a punishing three-and-a-half hour tussle with her opponent, making it the longest WTA match of the year so far, even in spite of its premature ending.
