The tenth season of the FIA World Endurance Championship will begin this month with the official prologue ahead of the first of six brutal races.

The cars and drivers will be presented at the Sebring International Raceway in Florida, USA this weekend ahead of the first event at the same track later in March.

The series will run through till the end of 2022 and will feature the world famous 24 Hours of Le Mans race in the summer with drivers and teams from across the world taking part.

When does the 2022 FIA World Endurance Championship begin?

The Championship begins this weekend, March 12 and 13, with the official prologue.

The cars and their drivers will be presented at the Sebring International Raceway one week before they take to the track to begin the action.

The series will be played out over six races between March and November 2022.

Where is the FIA World Endurance Championship held? Is there a race in England?

Six tracks across six different countries will make up the 2022 FIA World Endurance Championship series.

The most famous race of the series is the 24 Hours of Le Mans - the world's oldest active endurance racing event.

Although there have previously been races held at England’s Silverstone Circuit, the Four Hours of Silverstone race has not featured in the series since 2019 and will not be part of the 2022 Championship.

The six races making up the 2022 series are:

  • 1000 Miles of Sebring (USA) - March 18
  • 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium) - May 7
  • 24 Hours of Le Mans (France) - June 11 & 12
  • 6 Hours of Monza (Italy) - July 10
  • 6 Hours of Fuji (Japan) - September 11
  • 8 Hours of Bahrain - November 12

The former races that will not feature in the 2022 series are: 4 Hours of Shanghai, 4 Hours of Silverstone, 6 Hours of Nürburgring Germany Nürburgring, 6 Hours of Mexico, 6 Hours of São Paulo and 8 Hours of Portimão.

How doe the FIA World Endurance Championship work?

The series features multiple classes of cars competing in six endurance races with 24 teams taking part.

World Champion titles are awarded to the top-scoring drivers and manufacturers over the six race series with other cups and trophies awarded for drivers and teams.

Who is taking part at the 2022 FIA World Endurance Championship?

24 teams from 11 different countries will take part across the four categories.

Vector Sport and Jota will represent the UK in the LMP2 category with TF Sport and GR Racing competing in the LMGTE Am category.

Several notable British drivers will take part in 2022 including the likes of former F1 star Paul di Resta and 2017 World Championship winner James Calado.
