Medvedev is favourite to win the tournament and is aiming for his second successive Grand Slam title after winning the US Open in September.

The 25-year-old lost out to Novak Djokovic in last year’s finale and will be hoping to redeem himself in Melbourne this weekend.

Despite being out of favour against Medvedev, Nadal’s Grand Slam record is exceptional.

If Nadal is to beat Medvedev this weekend then it will be a record 21st Grand Slam singles title for him.

The Spaniard has currently won 20 and is level with Federer and Djokovic, meaning he will overtake the duo with victory in Melbourne.

Nadal has appeared in 28 Grand Slam finals in total which is third to Federer and Djokovic, who have both featured in 31 finals.
