Boxing icon Tyson Fury has suggested that his fight against Dillian Whyte next month will be his last.

The WBC world heavyweight champion is set to put his title on the line in a high-profile clash with the Body Snatcher at Wembley, and will be hoping to extend his unbeaten record to 33 bouts.

Up until recently, there had been widespread speculation about the prospect of Fury facing off against fellow Brit Anthony Joshua at some point before ending his career, while the man who took Joshua’s unified WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight titles from him last year, Ukrainian star Oleksandr Usyk, has also been touted as a possible future opponent.

According to the Gypsy King himself, however, he has no plans to return to the ring once he has fought Whyte on April 23rd.

What has Fury said about his retirement?

Speaking in a press conference at Wembley on Tuesday, Fury voiced his intention to call time on his illustrious career after his high-profile showdown with Whyte.

He said: “This is the final fight of my career, I’m retiring after this, $150m in the bank, healthy, young, I’m gonna buy a massive yacht abroad.

“I’m retiring, I’m out, this is my final fight, I’m done.”

Before Fury purportedly plans to hang up his gloves, however, he must defend his WBC heavyweight title one more time against Whyte.

Unsurprisingly, the Gypsy King was in a typically bullish mood as he looked ahead to the bout.

After appearing in front of the media alone on Tuesday, the champion said: “He has definitely shown a white flag today.

“All this social media stuff, ‘I’m not promoting the fight, I’m not getting involved in mind games.’

“He’s given me that much more confidence it’s unbelievable.

“He’s terrified. He’s definitely showing the white flag in my estimation of this fight.

“The way he’s going on about it, saying he doesn’t want to go face-to-face, of course he doesn’t, because he’ll see that fire in my eyes and he’ll think, ‘I’m getting smashed to bits’.

“That’s what it is, it’s fear, it’s terror. It’s all of the above and I don’t blame him for not being here today.”
