In 2023 the Ryder Cup will head back across the Atlantic as Europe get set to host the 44th edition of the event.

Team Europe will look to wrestle back the trophy from Team USA after a disappointing showing against the young American side this year.

USA captain Steve Stricker guided the home team to the largest margin of victory since the Europeans joined the competition in 1979 as Europe captain Padraig Harrington saw his team on the back foot from day one.

The Americans started the competition as favourites which is to be expected not just due to their quality but the support of the raucous home crowd, an advantage they won’t have when Europe host the competition.

Here’s everything you need to know about the 2023 Ryder Cup, two years ahead of the competition getting underway.

When is the next Ryder Cup?

The 44th Ryder Cup will be held in in autumn 2023.

The competition was originally scheduled to take place from September 30, 2022 to October 2, 2022 but the 43rd Ryder Cup, due to take place in 2020, was postponed into 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

They Ryder Cup was originally held on odd numbered years until 2001 when the September 11 terror attacks required the postponement of that years competition.

Since then the biennial event has been held on even numbered years but returned to the original schedule this year.

Where is the next Ryder Cup being held?

Rome will hosts the 2023 Ryder Cup after Italy beat Germany, Austria and Spain to win the bid for 44th edition of the event in 2015.

The Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Guidonia Montecelio, 10 miles from the city centre of Rome is the course where the matches will be played.

The course, which was designed by Jim Fazio & David Mezzacane and built in 1989, has hosted the the 1994 and 2021 Italian Open golf championships.

Are tickets on sale for the 2023 Ryder Cup?

The first tickets for the 2023 Ryder Cup went on sale on September 21, 2021 - just days before the 2021 competition is due to begin.

Ryder Cup 2023 teams

Team selection comes partly by qualifications and partly by captain’s selections, with the process varying between the USA and Europe.

The USA captain is selected by a PGA of America committee, Steve Stricker will be expected to reutrn as captain after leading the USA to a record victory in 2021.

The European captain is also chosen by a committee, from the R&A, and Padraig Harrington position will likely be under consideration after this year’s disappointing result.
