The 2022 PDC European Tour gets underway later this week with the International Darts Open live from the SACHSEN arena in Riesa, Germany.

Defending champion Joe Cullen, who beat three time world champion Michael van Gerwen in last year’s final, will return to defend his crown as will the Dutch runner-up.

Several of the PDC’s top ranked players will also be participating in the event which will be the first of 13 European Tour showcases this year.

When, where and what is the International Darts Open?

The 2022 International Darts Open is the first of 13 Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) European Tour events on the 2022 PDC Pro Tour.

The European Tour is a series of tournaments held across Europe which first began in 2012 and sees top players on the Order of Merit compete against players from six different regional qualifiers.

The 2022 event will be held at the SACHSEN arena in Riesa, Germany and will take place from February 25 to 27.

Who is taking part at the 2022 International Darts Open?

16 of the PDC Order of Merit’s top players will take part in the event and will compete against 32 players from six qualifying events including 24 from the Tour Card Holder Qualifier from July 2021.

The players came from the rankings in June 2021 as opposed to the most recent Order of Merit.

There are plenty of familiar names amongst the non-seeded players including former World Champion Rob Cross and 2022 World Championship semi finalist Mervyn King.

They are: Kim Huybrechts, Florian Hempel, Dimitri Van den Bergh, Jermaine Wattimena, Rob Cross, Luke Woodhouse, Martin Lukeman, Krzysztof Kciukl, Daryl Gurney, Jeff Smith, Ritchie Edhouse, Madars Razma, Mervyn King, Ryan Joyce, Andy Boulton, Ron Meulenkamp, Gabriel Clemens, Keane Barry, Vincent van der Voort, Lewy Williams, Ryan Searle, Wayne Jones, Simon Whitlock, Adam Gawlas.

Also taking part are Associate Member Qualifier Danny van Trijp, Nordic & Baltic Qualifier Dennis Nilsson, East European Qualifier János Végső and four qualifiers from host nation Germany.

Is the 2022 International Darts Open on TV? Live stream details

The 2022 International Darts Open will not be broadcast on live television in the UK but can be watched through the PDC’s streaming service PDCTV.

PDCTV customers will have access to all European Tour events.

2022 International Darts Open Prize Money

As well as the obvious cash incentive, the prize money won by players also dictates their Order of Merit rankings.

Although the European Tour events do not have quite the same staggering purses as the televised majors, there is still £25,000 on offer for the winner and £10,000 for the runner-up.

The semi-finalists will receive £6500 and quarter-finalists get £5000 while third-round losers take home £3000, second-round losers get £2000 and first-round losers get £1000.
