What happened to Jannik Sinner at the French Open today?

Jannik Sinner was two sets up and a game away from winning his second round match at the French Open to Juan Manuenl Cerundolo when he called for a medical timeout and treatment in the middle of a game.

Sky Sports reported that “Sinner bent over on the clay court in apparent exhaustion multiple times and was hardly even running for shots as the match wore on, resorting to drop shots and serve-and-volley tactics to try and shorten the points.

“He attempted to cool himself with a hand-held fan on changeovers and put bags of ice around his neck.”

In January of this year, Jannik Sinner also had to deal with heat exhaustion when he defeated Eliot Spizzirri in a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 win at the Australian Open. Sinner said afterwards that “I struggled physically a bit today,” said Sinner. “I got lucky with the heat rule, they closed the roof. I took my time, as the time passed, I felt better. I’m very happy with this performance.”
