England and Australia have not quite finished battling out the Ashes series just yet as the women’s squads prepare to face each other for their own series.

England’s men had a catastrophic 4-0 defeat with only one slightly redeeming Test match played in Sydney.

What could have been a victory in Hobart turned out to be yet another crushing blow for Joe Root and his men.

While Root and Chris Silverwood will be facing many questions over their eligibility for the roles they currently sit in, their counterparts in the Women’s squad will hope to restore some form of faith in English cricket as they look ahead to their fixtures in the coming few weeks.

The set up of the Women’s Ashes series is somewhat different to the Men’s. While the men play five Test matches over the course of around a month, the Women will participate in an ODI series, a T20 series and one Test match.

This format includes a points system with a Test match win worth four points and limited over matches worth two points each.

The current format of the Women’s Ashes series was set up in 2013 with just Tests being played previously.

This new and varied set up has made the series much more approachable for new fans to cricket and has drummed up an increasing amount of support for the Women’s game.

What is the team news?

Australia have named uncapped leg spinner Alana King in their side but the injury-enforced absence of Georgia Wareham and Sophie Molineux have left a large hole in the Australian side.

It had been thought that the Adelaide Strikers Amanda-Jade Wellington would fill one of those gaps, but selectors opted for the Perth Scorchers bowler, King, instead.
