Staff of a five-star hotel in Egypt have been seriously injured and hospitalised after a mass tourist brawl broke out.

The fight erupted after tourists refused to pay for a service, it has been reported. The hocking brawl took place at the luxurious five-star hotel in Taba, Egypt.

It left a staff member seriously injured, alongside six others. The fight is believed to have taken place at the Movenpick Resort, a destination known for its 424 rooms and pristine beach.

Four tourists reportedly refused to pay for their meal and the fight broke out when one of the visitors allegedly hurled verbal abuse at a hotel worker, according to Sky News. Three additional hotel staff members and three of the tourists, out of four involved, all reportedly suffered injuries that required hospital treatment.

According to Reuters, the Egyptian prosecution office ordered the detention of two Israeli citizens for assaulting three hotel workers. The two Israelis, who are facing charges of assault and displaying force, will be remanded in custody for four days pending investigations.

Despite rumours circulating in Israeli media, an Egyptian official has shut down suggestions that the incident was a targeted attack on Israeli citizens, dismissing them as "baseless". Local authorities are now probing the incident and are determined to get to the bottom of what triggered the mayhem.

Anne Wahl-Pozeg, senior vice president of communications for Europe and North Africa for hotel chain Accor, which runs the Movenpick Resort, told the Mirror: "The safety and security of our guests and team members is our highest priority. We confirm that an incident occurred on 30 August involving a guest and a team member.
