Gatwick Airport incident: Train station closes with services cancelled and passengers evacuated due to 'ongoing incident'

Gatwick's train station has been evacuated, sparking travel chaos for passengers at the London airport.

Large crowds of travellers had been evacuated from Gatwick Airport's train station. In a statement on X, it said: "UPDATE: Gatwick Airport train station has now reopened. Thank you for your cooperation."

Gatwick Airport confirmed its station had closed earlier due to "an ongoing incident" but did not provide more details. Shortly before 1:40pm, it said: "Due to an ongoing incident, train services are currently not stopping at Gatwick Airport.

"Passengers should check services before travelling and leave more time to complete their journey." National Rail said in an update: “Lines have reopened following the emergency services dealing with an incident in the Gatwick Airport area.

“As service recovers, trains running through this station may still be delayed by up to 45 minutes or revised. Disruption is expected until 14:15.

“Train operators are now working on getting Thameslink, Southern and Gatwick Express services that run to / from or through Gatwick Airport back on time. For all journeys, you can now travel using your usual route, but journey times could still be extended - please allow an additional 30 minutes to reach your destination.

“Some trains may be altered with part or full cancellations meaning you might have to change trains en-route.”
