Stansted Airport: Trains to major UK airport cancelled as 'all lines blocked' due to 'fault in tunnel' - Stansted Express, CrossCountry services affected
Trains to and from Stansted Airport are cancelled due to a “fault with signalling system”.
National Rail wrote on X: “A fault with the signalling system at Stansted Airport means that all lines are blocked. As a result, trains are unable to run to / from this station and will be cancelled or revised.”
Disruption is expected until 9:30am. Services affected are Greater Anglia/Stansted Express and CrossCountry.
Advice to Stansted Express/Greater Anglia customers reads: “Greater Anglia / Stansted Express customer advice: Greater Anglia / Stansted Express are currently trying to resource rail replacement vehicles to operate between Bishops Stortford and Stansted Airport.
“You may use your ticket onboard the following local bus routes operated by Cental Connect at no extra cost: 305 route between Bishops Stortford and Stansted Airport. 333 route between Stansted Airport and Braintree.”
National Rail adds for CrossCountry passengers: “CrossCountry customer advice: You may use your ticket onboard the two CrossCountry services operating before and after your cancelled service at no extra cost.
“Rail replacement transport has been requested to operate between #StanstedAirport and Cambridge. Further details will follow once confirmed. In the meantime, passengers who arrange their own road transport may claim a reimbursement from CrossCountry customer relations on production of a receipt.”
Greater Anglia says that the routes affected are Stansted Express between London Liverpool Street and Stansted Airport and CrossCountry routes. It says: “Trains cannot run between Bishops Stortford / Elsenham and Stansted Airport, in both directions. Stansted Express trains will only be running between London Liverpool Street and Bishops Stortford.
“Some trains will be cancelled. Alternative Travel Options Limited accessible replacement buses will be running between Bishops Stortford and Stansted Airport. We have arranged for you to be able to use your Stansted Express ticket on the following bus routes: 305 (Central Connect) between Bishops Stortford Interchange (Stop E) and Stansted Airport Coach Station, 333 (Central Connect) between Braintree Bus Interchange (Stand 6) and Stansted Airport Coach Station”.
It comes as there is already travel chaos due to a fire at Stansted Airport. The blaze broke out in one of the lounges in the early hours of this morning forcing flights to be delayed. Security was shut.
At 6:30am both security and the departure lounge were re-opened. Passengers are warned of delays to flights today.
