As former Coronation Street star Julie Goodyear is diagnosed with dementia, a look at her net worth

Without question, Julie Goodyear is a Coronation Street legend thanks to her incredible portrayal of landlady Bet Lynch in the ITV soap. Although I don’t watch Coronation Street now, without question part of the reason I did years ago was because of Julie’s incredible acting. 

Although Julie Goodyear first appeared in the ITV soap in 1966, her last appearance as landlady Bet Lynch was in 2003. In the statement Julie Goodyear’s husband Scott Brand said: “We have taken the decision to publicly announce the diagnosis as Julie still loves visiting friends and eating out.” He went on to say that “Inevitably she is recognised and fans love to meet her-and-she-them-but she can get confused particularly if she is tired. I hope people understand.”

As well as appearing in Coronation Street, Julie Goodyear also appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in 2012.

When it comes to her net worth, according to Celebrity Net Worth, the actress is reportedly worth $8 million. 

In 2013, Julie Goodyear spoke to Piers Morgan for his ITV show Piers Morgan’s Life Stories. According to ITV, the then “71 year old returned to the show in 2002, but lasted a little over a fortnight because she struggled to cope with the changes in the workload. She told Piers the following regarding this: “When I walked in, it was like being on a conveyor belt. We’d always had rehearsal. We’d always had make-up and costume and everything. I had about 27 Rovers scenes and we started at the end.”

Julie Goodyear is not the only iconic soap actress who has suffered from dementia in recent years. Dame Barbara Windsor passed away in 2020 at the age of 83. Her husband Scott Mitchell revealed that she had passed away from Alzheimer’s at a London care home. 

King Charles and Queen Camilla, the then Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall paid tribute to Barbara at the time of her death. They said at the time: “Dame Barbara Windsor-a great British actor and tireless charity campaigner who will be deeply missed.”
