The Office’s Mindy Kaling is the producer, so it's really no surprise the show is back for another season of relatable characters and coming of age situations.

Here’s everything you need to know about season two of Never Have I Ever, from returning cast members to newcomers, and a refresh of what happened in season one.

Season One recap

The show is loosely based on Kaling’s childhood experiences and makes for heartwarming viewing.

Indian-American 15 year old Devi (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) loses her father and subsequently loses the use of her legs for three months, finding herself wheelchair dependent.

When the time comes for her to go to high school, she is determined to shake off her quirky persona, ditch the wheelchair and become popular.

She convinces best friend Eleanor that they need boyfriends. Devi becomes friends with classmate Paxton (Darren Barnet), and in the heat of a semi-breakdown, convinces him she wants to have sex with him.

When the time comes, she admits she isn’t ready and the two agree to just remain friends.

Devi tells her two friends, Eleanor and Fabiola that she did lose her virginity to Paxton.

Meanwhile, Devi introduces the audience to her nemesis, Ben (Jaren Lewison).

Devi and Ben attend a Model UN conference together and this fuels their academic feud over who is more intelligent. But things grow increasingly tense when Devi’s mum takes a shine to Ben and invites him for dinner at their house.

Fabiola and Eleanor learn that Devi lied about having sex and fall out with her, but Paxton saves the day when he kisses her at a party to save her from the embarrassment of her lies.

The following day, he returns her ruined party frock to her mother’s house and her mum, Nalini, assumes the worst and tells Devi she is moving the whole family to India.

Devi refuses and takes shelter at Ben’s house, where the two strike up a romance.

Season one ends with both Paxton and Ben expressing their feelings for Devi, setting up season two for a dramatic young love triangle.

Ramakrishnan told Entertainment Weekly: “I feel like we stayed true to season one. It’s a proper transition. I do think season two is better than season one. I like to say, ‘We got no sophomore slump here!'”

Season Two cast
