ITV chiefs have now been given the green light to travel to Australia

ITV will be providing their annual dose of sun, snakes and celebrity again this winter, as I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here is set to return to Australia in 2021.

The show, which has run for two decades, had to adapt to the coronavirus pandemic last year, which led to stars camping out in Wales - in stark contrast to its usual New South Wales location.

When will I’m a Celebrity return to TV?

The show is expected to return in November this year, in keeping with previous series.

I’m a Celeb is synonymous with the UK’s winter months, airing in the run up to Christmas and providing nightly entertainment from the jungle in Australia.

While last year’s Gwrych Castle series was watched by more than 10 million viewers, ITV bosses feel the “glitz and glamour” of the jungle adds to the excitement and provides a form of escapism during the dark nights.

A source told The Sun: “As great as a year in the castle was, the show is made by its surroundings and the glitz and glamour of the jungle.”

So, will there be a return to the Australian jungle this year?

Where will it be filmed?

The show’s producers have confirmed that Australian border forces have permitted the show to return to its usual set this coming Winter, which is Summer out in Aus.

SincE 2003, I’m a Celeb has been filmed in a former banana plantation in Murwillumbah, New South Wales.

In 2020, the show broke with tradition due to the ongoing pandemic, which saw Australia shut its borders for all but essential travel.

A border force source said: “Everyone is delighted with this news. All the signs are now pointing towards a return to the jungle.

“ITV have assurances from Australian border control bosses that even if a wider travel ban is still in place for tourists, they’ll get the paperwork and clearance they need to send cast and crew to Aus. It’s a big moment.”

However, there are concerns that the unpredictability of international travel could cause last minute cancellations of any travel permits, so producers have also reserved Gwrych Castle as a backup for November.

An ITV spokesman said last night: “No final decision has yet been made regarding the location for the new series.”

Who will the contestants be?

The contestants for this year are yet to be announced, with confirmation usually taking place in late October.

While it is not yet known which stars will be taking on the infamous bushtucker trials in 2021, it has been confirmed that fan favourites Ant and Dec, both 45, will return.

The Sun also reports that producers have begun informing potential campmates that filming will take place in Australia, so there could be big names already in talks and seeking to confirm details of their fortnight in the jungle.
