This weekend will see two of the Premier League’s most in-form teams come face to face as Newcastle United host Fulham. The sides sit within four points of each other in the Premier League table’s top six.

Despite many predicting a brilliant campaign for the Magpies, they have still managed to perform above expectations and arguably still have a slim chance of chasing the Premier League title as they sit nine points behind Arsenal. Eddie Howe’s side have only suffered defeat to Liverpool this season and remain unbeaten in their last 13 matches in the top flight.

Meanwhile, Fulham were expected to be fighting relegation once again after they won the Championship last year, however Marco Silva has led them to the top six after taking points off the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Brentford. A win on Tyneside could see the London outfit leapfrog Tottenham Hotspur into fifth place.

Here is everything you need to know about the all-important clash:

When is Newcastle vs Fulham?

Newcastle United will host Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon (January 15). The match is scheduled to kick off at 2pm and will welcome a sold-out crowd to St. James’ Park.

Team news

Newcastle Utd

Newcastle could be without Joelinton after he was charged with drink-driving earlier this week. Eddie Howe has said the club will deal with the matter interally and that he will reflect on the situation before making a decision over his availability in the next couple of days. The Brazilian has shone for the Magpies this season after a poor start to life in England.

Jonjo Shelvey remains sidelined after picking up an injury in December’s friendly against Rayo Vallecano. The midfielder is yet to make a start in the top flight this season and is likely to be out for another month or so. Meanwhile, Matt Targett is unavailable after suffering an ankle problem last month, while Emile Krafth remains a long-term absentee. The defender hasn’t featured for United since he was stretchered off in the Carabao Cup win over Tranmere Rovers in August.

Fulham

Antonee Robinson will be forced to sit out of the trip to Newcastle after picking up his fifth yellow card of the campaign against Chelsea midweek. The full-back will serve a one-match ban this weekend and could be replaced by Layvin Kurzawa. Meanwhile, Aleksandar Mitrovic returns from his ban for the same reason and will be available to face his former club.

Elsewhere, Shane Duffy could return from illness, though the centre-back is yet to make a start for Fulham in the Premier League since joining on loan in the summer. Neeskens Kebano also remains sidelined after suffering a ruptured Achilles in November.
