Tune in after tea to catch the last session of play in Australia vs England’s fifth Ashes Test match

Test matches are often mocked for their five day duration and cricketers are usually teased over their reliance on tea and small sandwiches.

Tea has become almost as crucial to the game of Test cricket as the playing itself.

It gives players a chance to have a quick break in concentration and focus on something other than the bowler or batter while also giving fans a moment to pause, reflect and, if watching at the ground, buy the next round.

It has only been in more recent history that cricketers would not indulge in the food that was on offer. As cricket became more and more professional, cricketers began to take more note of what they were putting into their body and how it might affect the game.

Pre-2000, full meals might be eaten at both lunch and tea, but now it would not be unknown for cricketers to just enjoy a small snack such as a banana or protein bar.

With the 2021/22 Ashes series taking place down under, it has made it harder for English fans to watch as much of the action live as possible.

Many are taking strategic naps earlier in the day and powering through as much of the night as possible, while others might wake up at 3 or 4am to catch the last sessions.

The less intense fans of the sport might just be simply relying on the highlights available the following day.

However the day/night test that will take place this week in Adelaide offers a new opportunity for English fans to watch more of the action when they wake up.

If a slight lull from work allows, fans might be able to keep up with the last session on a discreet screen in the background.

Equally, those glued to watching every ball might be able to go to bed earlier and wake up for the 4am GMT start.

Tea will precede the last session of the day and would be the most ideal time to join the sport for UK viewers.
