They come face to face with He Who Remains, played by Jonathon Major, who has also been cast as Kang in the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

The villain is not the same person as Kang, but a variant of him who is the leader of the Time Variance Authority (TVA).

It is He Who Remains, the TVA’s mysterious creator who single-handedly put an end to a multiversal war that destroys all of existence.

Loki also travels through time and uses it to his advantage, so being interrupted by the Time traveller creator while stranded at an unfamiliar TVA headquarters that has no record of him and no protection could prove catastrophic for the god of mischief.

Will there be a season 2?

In the final post-credit scene of episode six, Marvel and Disney confirmed Loki will return for a second season.

Michael Waldron, head writer of season one, is said to be returning to pen the subsequent series and reveal what He Who Remains will have in store for Loki.

Deadline reported in January that the second season was already in pre-production, with Tom Hiddleston expected to return as the star of the MCU series.

However, with Marvel’s packed diary for the rest of 2021, it is unlikely that filming will begin before 2022.

Who will be in the Loki season 2 cast?

Supporting Hiddleston, there could be other Loki’s joining in season two.

As revealed in season one, there are several variants of Loki, most notably Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino).

None of the cast have been confirmed yet, so there could be newcomers in the next season as Marvel usually introduces new characters and stars throughout their series.

Could we see a return of original Loki lead, Richard E Grant? Nothing can be ruled out when it comes to the God of Mischief and his time travelling sorcery.

It is likely that season two will reveal more of Jonathan Major’s He Who Remains, and if the comics are anything to go by, he could be acquainted with Kang’s ally, Ravonna Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw).

When will season 2 be released?

There has been no official release date for season two of Loki announced.

This article will be updated when a date is confirmed.
