Who is in the Black Widow cast?

Scarlett Johansson will be reprising her role of Natasha Romanoff. Johansson played the Avenger in seven MCU films, with Black Widow being the character's first standalone project.

Speaking about her decision to reprise the role, she told Total Film: “I love Natasha… When we finished Avengers: Endgame, I felt good about the work that we did.” Adding that the Black Widow film needed to be substantial if she was going to do it. “I felt that, unless we were going to go on a deep dive.”

Florence Pugh appears alongside Johansson as Yelena Belova. Belova is a younger spy who forms a sister-like relationship with Romanoff.

Pugh has had a meteoric rise over the last five years, appearing in numerous big and small screen successes, and earned an Oscar nomination for her supporting role in the film Little Women.

Stranger Things star David Harbour also features in the movie, playing Alexei Shostakov. His character, also known as Red Guardian, who was the Soviet Union’s attempt at creating a super soldier like Captain America.

Also featured in the cast are O-T Fagbenele, Ray Winstone, and William Hurt.

What is Black Widow about?

Not much is known about the exact details of Black Widow plot line, but we do know that the movie confronts her dark past by returning to her native Russia.

Johansson has described the film as a “family drama”, as it sees the Avenger reunite with several important characters from her upbringing.

Florence Pugh agreed with the family drama sentiment, telling IGN that “it’s … about our family and where we came from and how we are broken and how we fix it.”

She added: “They’re like this big, bonkers, mad, loud Russian family. And they have a lot of love for each other.”
