Quiz clothing administration news: It collapsed owing more than £40 million, will all 40 stores be closed?

Quiz clothing, which was founded in Glasgow, owed more than £40 million when it was placed into administration earlier this year.

Earlier this year, UK high street giant Quiz clothing was placed into administration. In January of this year, a Quiz spokesperson told The Telegraph: “We have taken the decision to file a Notice of Intention to provide us the time we need to explore all financing options. In the meantime, [it’s] business as usual.” If it goes through, this will be the third time in six years that Quiz has gone into administration.

In February, Quiz Clothing appointed the insolvency practitioner Teneo as administrator to Zandra Retail, which operates Quiz's standalone stores in the UK and Ireland, after weeks of talks about a rescue deal. In a statement issued to Sky News, Sheraz Ramzan, CEO of Quiz, said: "The board took the difficult decision to appoint administrators to Zandra Retail Limited in light of the continuing challenging trading conditions impacting the Group's performance.

"We are deeply sorry to those affected by the store closures, including our retail colleagues. However, this decision will put the business in a more sustainable footing for the future and protect several hundred jobs as a result."

A statement on Quiz’s website reads: “Alistair McAlinden and Geoff Jacobs, both Managing Directors at Interpath Advisory, were appointed as Joint Administrators of Orion Retail Limited, Tarak International Limited and Zandra Systems Limited (together - the "Companies"), collectively trading as Quiz, on 5 February 2026.

“The affairs, business and property of the Companies are being managed by the Joint Administrators.

“The Joint Administrators act as agents of the Companies and contract without personal liability.

“Geoffrey Isaac Jacobs and Alistair McAlinden are authorised to act as insolvency practitioners by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.”

A message to customers read: “A stock clearance sale will commence immediately across all stores. Customers may wish to make purchases whilst stocks are available.

“All goods purchased on or after 5 February 2026 will be "sold as seen" and returns can only be accepted on the grounds that the goods are faulty.

“Any customers seeking to return items purchased prior to 5 February 2026 are advised to go to their nearest store where a replacement or substitute item(s) equal to or more than the value of the original purchase can be provided. (Where a replacement or substitute item(s) is greater in value than the original purchase, the difference will be charged.) Customers are advised that no cash or card refunds will be provided.

“In addition, and with regret, gift cards and credit notes are unable to be honoured.

“Any sums which you consider you may be owed in relation to a purchase from a Quiz store prior to commencement of the Administration on 5 February 2026 could form an unsecured claim in the Administration of Orion Retail Limited.”

According to reports, a decision over Quiz Clothing's 40 UK stores could be made within days, they have 11 stores in Scotland.
