Call the Midwife returned to BBC One on Sunday 2 January.

The 11^th series of the popular historical medical drama will be 8 episodes long, which will air weekly on Sunday nights.

What is Series 11 of Call the Midwife about?

A lot of Call the Midwife Series 11 is still a mystery, though actor Helen George (who plays Nurse Trixie) has hinted that her character Nurse Trixie will face some obstacles in her tentative romance with widower Matthew Aylward (Olly Rix).

You can also expect to see the series continue to chart the relationship between Lucille (Leonie Elliott) and Cyril (Zephryn Taitte), after their marriage in the recent Christmas special.

This series of Call the Midwife will be set in 1967, so it’s likely to touch on historical milestones like the Abortion Act 1967 (which legalised abortion in many but not all cases) and the Sexual Offences Act 1967 (which legalised same-sex relationships in some but not all cases).

Who will be in Series 11 of Call the Midwife?

A number of familiar faces will return to Nonnatus House for Call the Midwife Series 11.

Helen George (Nurse Trixie), Jenny Agutter (Sister Julienne), Stephen McGann (Dr Turner), Laura Main (Shelagh Turner), and Fenella Woolgar (Sister Hilda) will all star, amongst others.

Megan Cusack, who joined Call the Midwife in Series 10 as pupil midwife Nancy Corrigan, will appear in Series 11 as well. Cusack is, like many actors, from an established performing family - her father is theatre producer Pádraig Cusack, and Sinéad Cusack and Jeremy Irons are her aunt and uncle.

Miriam Margolyes (Mother Mildred) will also return, after a reduced role in Series 10.

Is there a trailer for Call the Midwife Series 11?

Not quite – there’s not been a normal trailer just yet, though the BBC did release a special behind the scenes look at the upcoming series, which you can watch here.

Call the Midwife Series 11 will start on BBC One on Sunday January 2 at 8pm.

In the US, you’ll be able to watch Call the Midwife on PBS in March 2022.

Will there be a Series 12 of Call the Midwife?

Yes, there will! It has already been confirmed that Call the Midwife will continue through to 2024, with a twelfth and thirteenth season on the way as well.
