American Idol contestant Caleb Flynn charged with the murder of his wife after she was found dead in their home

A former reality TV contestant has been charged with the murder of his wife after she was found dead in their home.

Caleb Flynn, who was a contestant on American Idol in 2013, was arrested and charged after his wife Ashley was discovered dead with two gunshot wounds.

Flynn has pleaded not guilty to one count of murder and two counts each of felonious assault and tampering with evidence.

Ashley Flynn was reportedly found dead at the couple’s home in Ohio, United States, last Monday (February 16), in the early hours of the morning.

Flynn allegedly called 911 at around 2.30am and and claimed someone had broken into their home and shot his wife. He was arrested, however, on Thursday (February 19) by the Tipp City Police Department in Ohio and charged in Miami County Municipal Court.

According to TMZ, police said Ashley was shot using a 9mm semiautomatic handgun. The couple’s two young children were thought to be asleep in bed at the time, and were unharmed.

Flynn is said to have told a 911 operator that someone broke into the house and killed his wife. The caller is heard saying: "Oh my god, somebody broke into my home, somebody broke into my home and killed my wife. My wife, she's got two shots to her head, there's blood everywhere. Oh my god, oh my god, oh my God."

Asked if she was breathing, the caller replied: "No, I don't think so," adding: "Ashley, Ashley, baby, baby please, oh my god, there's no - she's not!" The audio of the call has been heard by Fox News Digital.

In a statement to press, Tipp City Police Chief Greg Adkins said: "The family and community deserve a thorough, professional and compassionate investigation into this very sensitive matter. As a result of the investigation, probable cause existed to charge Caleb Flynn with the murder of his wife. Due to the ongoing nature of this case, specific investigative details will not be released at this time."

A statement from Caleb's lawyer shared with Fox News Digital on Friday (February 20) read: "Caleb Flynn entered a plea of not guilty this morning and looks forward to defending this case. We are both disappointed and concerned about the short timeline and seeming rush to judgment in this case. When the government runs out of leads or can’t develop leads and looks at a surviving spouse in cases such as these, the chance of a wrongful conviction increases."

Ashley was a volleyball coach and a substitute teacher. She and Flynn shared two daughters. Flynn is a singer and musician best known for his appearance as a contestant on Season 12 of American Idol in 2013, where he auditioned in Chicago and received a golden ticket to Hollywood.
