Britney Spears charged with drink and drug driving after California arrest - how many children does she have as boys "spending time with her"

Britney Spears’ boys are said to have spent time with her following her DUI arrest - how many children does the pop icon have and what is her dating history?

Pop icon Britney Spears has been charged with drink and drug driving - just weeks after she checked herself in to rehab. On Thursday (April 30), the 44-year-old was charged with driving under the combined influence of alcohol and drugs, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office confirmed.

Her case is due in court on May 4 but she may not have to appear in person, the Attorney’s Office said. If the singer pleads guilty to reckless driving, she will receive 12-month probation during which she is required to complete a driving under the influence (DUI) class and pay state-mandated fines and fees.

This is because she has no prior DUI history, there was no crash or injury in her arrest, and she had a low blood alcohol level, according to the Attorney’s Office.

The Oops I Did It Again singer was arrested in California on March 5 after she was seen driving “erratically”. Police said Spears “showed signs of impairment and submitted to a series of field sobriety tests” after being pulled over. Spears, who police said was alone in her black BMW 430i, was arrested for “driving under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol” and taken to Ventura County Main Jail, north west of Los Angeles.

A representative at the time said the “unfortunate incident” was “completely inexcusable”, adding it would ideally be “the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life”. They added: “Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for wellbeing.”

In 2007, the Mississippi-born singer avoided a criminal hit-and-run trial by paying damages after photographers pictured Spears steering her car into another vehicle as she tried to park in a California car park, and walking away after assessing the damage to her own car.

Britney Spears’ children

Britney Spears shares two sons, 20-year-old Sean Preston Federline and 19-year-old Jayden James Federline, with ex-husband Kevin Federline who was granted full custody of the boys in 2008. The pair have remained out of the spotlight for much of their lives. Despite what has been reported as a ‘strained relationship’ and having ‘limited contact’ with her children over the years, it is understood the Toxic singer is now rebuilding a relationship with them.

Britney Spears’ husbands and boyfriends

Britney has three ex-husbands. She met Sam Asghari on the set of the Slumber Party music video in 2016. They married in 2022 and divorced in 2024. Next was backup dancer Kevin Federline who she married in 2004 and divorced in 2007. A very short-lived marriage to childhood friend Jason Alexander took place in 2004. The pair tied the knot in Las Vegas but was annulled 55 hours later.

The singer has also had a number of high profile relationships which didn’t result in matrimony, perhaps most notably dating Justin Timberlake from 1999 to 2002. She also dated briefly Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst in 2003. She was engaged to her agent Jason Trawick who she dated from 2009 to 2013, but they never made it down the aisle and in 2014, she dated producer and writer Charlie Ebersol for around a year.

Most recently, Britney has had an on-again, off-again relationship with Paul Soliz, a former housekeeper she hired for maintenance work in 2023. Their tumultuous relationship featured several breaks, including a reported split in July 2024, a brief reunion in February 2025, and another reported breakup in early 2026.
