Married... With Children star Christina Applegate rumours to have been hospitalised in Los Angeles amid battle with multiple sclerosis
Actor Christina Applegate was hospitalised in Los Angeles, according to reports, amid battle with multiple sclerosis.
Actor Christina Applegate is in hospital, according to reports, as she continues to live with multiple sclerosis (MS). Celebrity website TMZ said the star was hospitalised in Los Angeles late last month, though the reasons for her treatment are unclear.
She revealed her MS diagnosis in 2021, but it is not known if her referral is related to the condition. It comes after Applegate's MeSsy podcast co-host, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, announced the show would go on hiatus due to the pair being on book tours.
A representative for Applegate told TMZ: "I have no comment whether she is in the hospital or what her medical treatments are. She's had a long history of complicated medical conditions that she has been refreshingly open about, as evidenced in her memoir and on her podcast."
Applegate, 54, who shot to fame through her role as Kelly Bundy in Married... With Children, recently published her memoir - You With the Sad Eyes. The book details her daily struggles with MS, including how she struggles to "get my arm to move far enough to grab the cup of water by my bed or my phone from its charger" each morning. She also writes about other aspects of her life, including growing up in Los Angeles and watching her mum, actress Nancy Priddy, struggle with heroin addiction and multiple abusive partners.

She said: “My life isn’t wrapped up with a bow. People’s lives, sorry for lack of a better term, f***ing suck sometimes. So I’m being as honest and raw as I possibly can. We all have come from somewhere, some places more painful than others, and it’s what you do with it, I guess. This is not an inspirational book, by any means. But it can inspire.”
MS is a condition that affects the brain and spinal cord. It cannot be cured, but treatment can often help manage it. Some of the most common symptoms include feeling extremely tired, problems with eyes or your vision such as blurred vision or eye pain, numbness or a tingling feeling in different parts of the body, feeling off balance, dizzy or clumsy, muscle cramps, spasms and stiffness and problems with memory or concentration. But, these health issues can also be signs of other conditions and people are urged to visit their GP if they are experiencing them.
After revealing her diagnosis, she launched her MeSsy podcast in March 2024, to speak more openly about her condition. In one episode in December 2024 she explained how she began experiencing symptoms in 2019, but ignored them. Referring to a time when she was filming the Dead to Me pilot, she said: “I remember falling that day . . . Hi, first sign of MS!” Applegate wasn’t diagnosed until the filming of the show’s third and final season.
MS is also not the only health issue that Applegate has faced. In 2008 she underwent a bilateral mastectomy after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
The Emmy Award winner, who is married to Porno for Pyros bassist Martyn LeNoble, said the illness makes her prone to infection, sending her to the emergency room regularly.
