Influencer Sarah Palmyra calls off her engagement after one year - and admits she wanted to 'run away'
A content creator has spoken out after ending her engagement after just over a year - and has told her fans she’s ‘really scared’.
Sarah Palmyra announced that she is no longer getting married earlier this month.
Palmyra, a beauty influencer known for sharing make-up tips and product reviews, revealed that she had ended her engagement after a little over a year, on Tuesday February 17. She said that she had been “privately grieving and dealing with” the loss of her fiancé, which had been “unexpected” - although she did make clear that the choice had been hers.
In her video, she said: “I've been really scared. I'm scared of feeling judged. I'm scared of feeling embarrassed. And I'm mostly scared of just being vulnerable.”
The influencer added that it now felt “embarrassing” that she had previously made a “very public” series of videos of her trying on wedding dresses and had also “proudly shared” that she would be getting married, when she then had to announce just a few months later that she is not.
In the caption, the 31-year-old said: “Sometimes things don’t work out.” In the video, qhich the star recorded in her car, she looked emotional and appeared to tear up.

In a follow-up video posted on Tuesday (February 24), the influencer candidly spoke further about ending her engagement. She told her two million fans that she was “doing okay” and was “taking things day by day.”
She went on: “Some days are easier, and I feel more clarity, and other days are really, really hard. I think a lot of women who are watching this [are] wondering if they're going to get this overwhelming feeling of clarity. Sometimes that just doesn't come. And sometimes you can logically know that something is not going to work for you, but feel the total opposite.”
Palmyra also said that she had moved back in with her parents after the breakdown of her relationship, and admitted that she had the urge to change her name, cut her hair, move to a different place, delete her social media accounts and “run away”.
But, she had decided not to because of her supportive fans. “I ultimately decided that doing that would be a bad idea,” she continued. “I just want to say thank you so much for sticking by me and really supporting me and holding my hand during this time. I honestly feel like you guys were my internet bridesmaids, and now you're my internet besties and you're just here holding the ice as we go through this really interesting plot twist in my life.”
Palmyra announced that she got engaged in December 2024. She now appears to have deleted her engagement post, but some videos of her trying on wedding dresses still remain on her page.
