Three individuals suspected of being part of a criminal gang targeting luxury villas in Ibiza, including one rented by former BBC Radio 1 presenter Nick Grimshaw, have been arrested by Spanish authorities.

Grimshaw, who had rented the villa to celebrate his 40th birthday, was reportedly left "upset" by the ordeal. The Guardia Civil has confirmed the arrests of two men and one woman in connection with at least 22 robberies at homes across the Spanish island, with the total value of stolen items estimated to exceed half a million euros.

Grimshaw, well-known in the UK for his work as a radio DJ and television presenter, had rented the luxury villa for a special birthday celebration with family and friends, including his 81-year-old mother, Eileen, and his fiancé, dancer and model Meshach Henry. The gang of thieves reportedly targeted the villa at night while Grimshaw and his guests were asleep.

Speaking to a national newspaper, a source indicated the villa was chosen due to its reputation for being rented by high-net-worth clients. They added: "The gang would have been unlikely to have known who Grimshaw was. It was a case of the wrong place at the wrong time, but it's scary to say the least."

Despite the distressing incident, nobody was hurt, and Grimshaw has since returned to the UK. He later shared holiday photos on Instagram, remarking on how quickly summer had passed.

The Guardia Civil revealed that the gang typically entered homes while the occupants were asleep, dressed in black and with their faces covered. Authorities suspect the thieves may have used a type of gas to induce sleepiness, as several victims reported feeling unusually drowsy when they woke up.

A property linked to the suspects was recently searched as part of the investigation, and officers recovered various expensive items, including watches, branded bags, jewellery, and sunglasses.
