Sean Kingston, who shot to fame in the 2000s with his hit Beautiful Girls, has been arrested alongside his mother after a raid on his Florida home.

Kingston’s home was raided by detectives after a company complained that the Jamaican singer and rapper had failed to fully pay for a TV and sound system set which had been installed in the Fort Lauderdale property. Both he and his mother were arrested on fraud and theft charges linked to the TV and sound system.

Kingston, whose real name is Kisean Anderson, was not at home in Florida at the time of the raid and was taken into custody “without incident” in Fort Irwin, southern California. His mother was taken into custody at the Florida mansion, with Broward County Sheriff’s Office saying in a statement: "As a result of the investigation, an adult female, Janice Turner, 2/16/1963, was taken into custody on numerous fraud and theft charges. This investigation is active and ongoing."

In a post on Instagram, Kingston, 34, said: “People love negative energy! I am good and so is my mother! My lawyers are handling everything as we speak.” A lawyer representing the pair told AP news agency: “We look forward to addressing these in court and are confident of a successful resolution." It is believed that the complaint came after Kingston allegedly failed to make repayments to Ver Ver Entertainment on a 232-inch television and the sound system. According to court documents, Kingston had persuaded the company to install the mammoth unit with “as small a downpayment as possible”, even offering to promote the company in a video with singer Justin Bieber, with whom he has duetted in the past .

A lawyer representing the company said: "We know that our property is inside this house right here, so as soon as the raid takes place, we are going to have a crew of people in there to reassemble it and take it back to its rightful owner."
