And rumour has it that while he will continue his reign as Spidey, there could be a number of other MCU heroes swinging into the latest Spider-Man movie...

In No Way Home, the newly unmasked Peter Parker accompanied by love interest MJ – played by Zendaya – struggles to adapt with the attention and he turns to Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange for help.

However, his spell goes wrong, unleashing multi-dimensional chaos. It is expected that No Way Home will ultimately unleash the “multiverse”, which will play a large role in Phase Four of the MCU.

It may be for this reason that fans have speculated the return of former Spider-men, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, as the multiverse gives writers the narrative tools to bring in characters from those actors’ films, which were not released as part of the MCU.

Here is everything you need to know.

He has since served as a mentor to Peter Parker after Stark’s death, and is romantically attached to Aunt May.

Another returning character from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man film trilogy, it’s been confirmed that Alfred Molina will return as multi-armed menace Doctor Octopus, a role he first played in 2004’s Spider-Man 2.

He appeared towards the end of the film’s first official trailer released in August, emerging from a collapsing bridge with his metallic limbs.

Who else is on the cast?

Trailers for the film have also revealed that Jamie Foxx’s Electro will make an appearance, as will a number of other previous Spider-Man foes : Sandman (Thomas Haden Church), and Lizard (Rhys Ifans).

Rumours have been rife about the return of Maguire, Garfield and their respective in-universe partners, Kirsten Dunst’s Mary Jane Watson and Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy.

But Sony and Marvel have so far been tight lipped about the return of some former Spider-Man cast members, as have the actors themselves.

Garfield has previously denied he had received any involvement in the film earlier this year.

“I wish I could just be able to speak to everyone and say, like, ‘I recommend that you chill’,” he said. “I can’t speak for anything else apart from myself, they might be doing something. But I ain’t got a call.”

Of course, he could just be bluffing...
