The Kissing Booth 3: who’s in the cast with Joey King, when is it out on Netflix - and reviews

Three years after Netflix released the first instalment of The Kissing Booth adapted from the novel by Welsh author Beth Reekles, the streaming giant has unleashed the concluding chapter of the glossy teen romances.

But what happens in the third and final instalment of the trilogy? And will there be a fourth film?

Here is everything you need to know.

What happens in The Kissing Booth 3?

In the first film, high school student Elle Evans (Joey King) fell madly in love with reformed bad boy Noah Flynn (Jacob Elordi) and declared her love before he left for Harvard.

In the follow-up, Elle returned to school for her senior year and hopes to maintain a long-distance relationship with Noah.

The Kissing Booth 3 follows the couple’s final summer before college, as Elle and boyfriend Noah head to a beach house with Elle’s best friend, Lee (Joel Courtney).

She is in the throes of choosing which college to attend: Harvard with Noah, or Berkeley with Lee?

As she wrestles with her momentous decision, Elle stumbles upon an old bucket list she made with Lee and they resolve to complete the challenges before summer ends.

Meanwhile, rival suitor Marco (Taylor Zakhar Perez) returns to hopefully woo Elle away from Noah.

Is it any good?

The film has been panned by critics, and currently sits with an approval rating of just 13 per cent on review round-up website, Rotten Tomatoes.

“King’s charm isn’t enough to save the series,” said indieWire’s Kate Erbland - who rated the film a D+ - “but it’s sure as hell the lone silver lining of a franchise that finally, blessedly, is coming to an end.”

Caroline Siede from AV Club was slightly kinder, rating the film a C, but said: “For most of its runtime, The Kissing Booth 3 is like narrative sand slipping through your fingers.”

“Like a scoop of vanilla ice cream atop scoops of chocolate and strawberry, ‘The Kissing Booth 3’ rounds out the sugary teen trilogy with a fitting, if bland, finale,” said the New York Times’ Natalia Winkelman.

But it’s unlikely poor reviews will deter fans of the series.

In November 2020, The Kissing Booth 2 won the award for comedy movie of 2020 at the E! People’s Choice Awards, while Joey King took home the gong for comedy movie star of 2020.

Could the third film replicate similar awards success come the end of the year?

Will there be a Kissing Booth 4?

It’s unlikely that there will be The Kissing Booth 4.

The third film was always meant to serve as a conclusion of the series, and since all three of Beth Reekles’ novels have now been adapted for the screen, that’s likely it for The Kissing Booth movies.

However, another film isn’t beyond the realms of possibility if the latest instalment proves popular enough; Reekles’ could choose to write a fourth novel in the series, or Netflix could decide to pursue an original story of their own within the same universe.

Even if there are no more The Kissing Booth films or books to come, Reekles’ is still keeping busy, and in 2022 is due to publish her latest novel, ‘Love, Locked Down’.

That book is described as the author’s first “adult novel”, and so is likely to take a different tone from that of The Kissing Booth.

It could be that this is picked up to be made into a movie too, although at this stage, nothing is confirmed.
