The latest instalment of EA Sport’s long-running virtual footballing series of video games may be a couple of months away, but already fans have a chance to get in on the action early.

The game’s developers have launched a beta testing period, giving them a chance to iron out any kinks ahead of FIFA 22’s full launch in October.

The upside of that is that FIFA fans can get their hands on the game early - and entirely for free - although with some caveats.

But what exactly is the FIFA 22 beta? And how do you get access to it?

Here is everything you need to know.

When is the beta?

The FIFA 22 Beta was made available from 6pm UK time on Thursday 12 August.

It will be accessible for three weeks, and will come to an end at the same time on Thursday 2 September.

What does the beta include?

The beta is not the full game, and will be an unfinished “build” of FIFA 22.

The testing period will be used by EA Sports to tweak and fix any issues players discover ahead of launch, and to test the game’s servers and other behind the scenes infrastructure used to facilitate the online component of the game.

The FIFA 22 beta will give fans a sneak peak at the game’s FIFA Ultimate Team, VOLTA Football, Career Mode and Kick-off modes.

If you’re eligible for access to FIFA 22’s beta period, EA should have already emailed you a code that will grant you access once you redeem it on your platform of choice.

If you haven’t received a code, it may be because you haven’t given EA permission to message you about upcoming products.

It’s understood another batch of codes will be sent out on 25 August, and if you want to be in with a chance of receiving one, you’ll need to go to your EA Account settings.

Here, check the box that says “Yes, email me about products” and select your preferred platform, and you should hopefully be graced with a code at the next opportunity they become available.

The beta test of the game is only available for players on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, so if you don’t own any of these platforms, you’ll need to wait until the full game’s release to get a taste of the action.

When is the full game released?

EA Sports has confirmed that FIFA 22 will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC from 1 October 2021.

The release will be worldwide and by pre-ordering the FIFA 22 Ultimate Edition users will get the game four days early, meaning gamers could be playing from 27 September 2021.

Gamers can pre order copies of FIFA 22 now through the EA Sports website.

Not only does the FIFA 22 Ultimate Edition give gamers access to the latest instalment four days earlier, it also enables customers to benefit from a dual-entitlement offer.

EA’s dual entitlement lets customers upgrade copies of FIFA 22 from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5, or Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S at no additional cost.
