Lost Ark is the latest massive online video gaming smash.

First released in South Korea in late 2019, the game saw its western release on 11 February 2022; within 24 hours of release, it became the second most played game on Steam.

Published by Amazon, the game is a fantasy role-playing game (RPG) presented from a top-down, ‘isometric’ angle.

Millions of players around the globe have sunk hours of their free time into the game. But what if you’re looking to play with a fresh approach, but don’t want to go through the rigmarole of building up a new character from scratch, then what are you to do?

Knowledge Transfers are the answer.

Here is everything you need to know about them.

What is a Knowledge Transfer?

Knowledge Transfers allow players to create an alternate Lost Ark account and character, and then get that character up to a desired level of experience in-game, without having to go through the entire process again.

Usually in games of this sort, starting with a new character would again mean having to put in hundreds of hours to get them to the level of experience you desire.

But with a Knowledge Transfer, you can easily transfer and share (with some caveats) your experience between your accounts and characters.

Why would you want to start an alternate account? Perhaps you want to experiment with a different play style, playing around with different loadouts that feel vastly different from your original character.

Maybe your first character was more suited to the stealthy approach, or ranged attacks. An alternate account would let you craft a character who’s more focused on combat and getting into the thick of things.

How does it work?

When you use a Knowledge Transfer, you can select any of your characters to benefit from it.

Doing this will make them unplayable for eight real-world hours, as they virtually “train” behind-the-scenes to get to where you want them.

So that means the result isn’t instantaneous, but it is certainly better than having to plough hundreds of hours into Lost Ark all over again.

Once the transfer is complete, your new character will have received all of the experience points from the main story quests on the continent you sent them to, and all base items from completing that questline.

How do I get a knowledge transfer?

Knowledge Transfers can be acquired with 600 of Lost Ark’s in-game currency, gold.

But it’s not quite as simple as splashing out on a Knowledge Transfer and assigning it to a desired character, though the conditions for being able to use one aren’t too taxing.

Players need to have completed the main quest of the continent you’re on with at least one character, and that character should be at the level cap.

You’ll also need to have unlocked the Island Stronghold, and completed the quest to gain access to the area’s training zone.

After you finish up these three steps, Knowledge Transfers should be available to use.
