A new documentary that is narrated and co-directed by the late George Michael is set for release in cinemas.

George Michael Freedom Uncut will shine a light into the former pop star’s intimate personal life, and allow fans to see intimate footage of Michael that has never been seen before.

George Michael Freedom Uncut will be released in cinemas worldwide on 22 June 2022.

The documentary is being released three days before what would have been Michael’s 59th birthday.

The documentary will only be available to watch through cinema release and you will not be able to stream it or watch it online. The participating cinemas will be announced when tickets go on sale on 27 April 2022.

What is George Michael Freedom Uncut about?

George Michael Freedom Uncut follows the singer’s life after the release of his award-winning solo album, “Faith”, and the making of his follow-up album “Listen Without Prejudice: Vol 1.”

The documentary features unseen footage of Michael’s personal life, including his high court battle and the death of his partner Anselmo Feleppa.

It will include many famous faces including interviews with Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Ricky Gervais, Liam Gallagher, James Corden and the five supermodels who appeared in his “Freedom! ‘90’” music video: Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford, Tatjana Patitz, and Linda Evangelista.

Who was George Michael?

George Michael was one of the most influential pop stars of the 1980s and 1990s.

As a teenger he formed the band Wham with childhood friend Andrew Ridgeley.

The pair went on to achieve fame with hits such as, “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” and “Last Christmas”.

In 1987 Michael decided to go solo, with his album “Faith” earning him a Grammy. He continued to release music and tour throughout the 1990s and 2000s.

In 1998 Michael revealed he was gay live on television, after coming out as gay he became an activist for HIV and Aids.

How did George Michael die?

George Michael died in the early hours of Christmas morning, 2016, aged just 53.

He was discovered in bed by his partner, Fadi Fawaz.

Michael’s died as a result of a dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and a fatty liver.
