Olivier Awards 2022: full list of nominations for the theatre awards from Eddie Redmayne to Lily Allen

After a two-year hiatus due to Covid, the nominations for this year’s Olivier Awards have been revealed

The nominations for this year’s Olivier Awards, one of the UK’s most prestigious theatre events, have been announced.

The awards ceremony, which celebrates the best talent within the industry, is returning this year after a two-year hiatus due to Covid.

Eddie Redmayne, Jessie Buckley, Lily Allen and Stephanie McKeon are all among the nominees.

“Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club” received eleven nominations in total, the most for any one show.

What are the Olivier Awards?

The awards celebrate the best in UK theatre.

Julian Bird, chief executive of the Society of London Theatre and executive producer of the Olivier Awards, said: "This year’s fantastic array truly demonstrates the breadth and diversity of London’s world-leading theatre industry, and its extraordinary creativity and resilience during an extremely challenging period for our sector.

When will the ceremony be held?

This year’s awards ceremony will take place at the Royal Albert Hall in London on 10 April.

Comedian Jason Manford will be the host for the evening.

"I’m sure the atmosphere in the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday 10 April will be absolutely electric," Mr Bird added.

Who has been nominated?

Redmayne and Buckley were both nominated for best actor awards for “Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club” while Emma Corrin (best known for playing Princess Diana in Netflix series The Crown) was nominated for “Anna X” at the Harold Pinter Theatre.

Lolita Chakrabarti’s stage adaptation of “Life of Pi” topped the play categories with nine nominations -  including for several actors taking the role of the tiger Richard Parker.

“Anything Goes,” which starred Sutton Foster and Robert Lindsay and was on at the Barbican in 2021, has also received nine nominations including best actor and actress in a musical.

Moulin Rouge! The Musical has been shortlisted for five awards, as has the National Theatre production of The Normal Heart.

Back To The Future - The Musical was a new stage adaptation of the 1985 film and has received seven nominations.

Lily Allen has been shortlisted for the best actress award for her West End debut in 2:22 Ghost Story.

Stephanie McKeon has been shortlisted for best actress in a musical category for her role as Anna in Frozen The Musical.
