There’s this story about how the sequel to Alien was pitched. Apparently, director James Cameron walked up to a chalkboard with the word ALIEN on it and added an S to make it say ALIENS. He then drew a line through the S to read ALIEN$ - and the film was commissioned on the spot.

Netflix’s sequel to Tall Girl is not, unfortunately, called Tall Girls, as funny as it is to imagine that exact scenario playing out with the teen movie substituted for the sci-fi thriller.

Tall Girl 2 – as the film is actually called – is coming to Netflix on February 11 2022. Here’s everything you need to know about the towering teen sequel.

What is Tall Girl 2 about?

It is not, as you’d assume, about Tall Girl’s shorter older sister having a sudden growth spurt, leading them both to have an identity crisis. (They’re perhaps saving that for third movie, or maybe stilts for Sabrina Carpenter were too expensive.)

Instead, Tall Girl 2 is about Tall Girl Jodi Kreyman adjusting to her newfound popularity – and realising that, in the face of her mounting insecurities, she needs to make sure she still stands tall in a metaphorical sense too.

Who stars in Tall Girl 2?

Ava Michelle returns as Tall Girl Jodi Kreyman. This is Michelle’s first acting role, though she previously appeared in various iterations of the Dance Moms franchise.

Sabrina Carpenter stars as Tall Girl’s shorter older sister, Harper Kreyman. Carpenter has previously appeared in Disney’s Girl Meets World, and feature film The Hate U Give. Previously, she attained some notoriety as the blonde girl referred to in Olivia Rodrigo’s song drivers licence. Sabrina Carpenter is 4ft 9.

Griffin Gluck plays Tall Girl’s much shorter boyfriend Jack Dunkleman. Gluck is best known for his appearances in Netflix’s American Vandal and Locke & Key. He is 5ft 6.

Luke Eisner reprises his role as Stig Mohlin, one of Tall Girl’s few tall friends. Eisner is 6ft 3in, and has previously guest-starred in an episode of The Goldbergs.

The rest of the cast includes Steve Zahn (The White Lotus, 5ft 6), Angela Kinsey (The Office, 5ft 1) and Anjelika Washington (Young Sheldon, 5ft 4) amongst others.

So, the most important part of all of this. How tall is Tall Girl’s tall girl Ava Michelle?

Ava Michelle is 6ft 1.5 inches tall – just like Tall Girl the character. There’s no CGI or camera trickery going on here: she really is that tall.

For comparison, here is a chart, which contextualises Tall Girl’s height against the obvious points of comparison.

At over 6ft tall, that makes Ava Michelle taller than Tom Cruise (5ft 7in), Danny DeVito (4ft 8in), and Robert Downey Jr (5ft 7), but shorter than Alan Ritchson (6ft 2in), The Rock (6ft 4in), and Elizabeth Debicki (6ft 2in).

The length of the average UK football pitch is between 295 ft (roughly fifty Tall Girls) and 394 ft (roughly sixty-six Tall Girls). The average double decker bus in London is around 14 and a half feet tall, which is a little over two Tall Girls.

Coincidentally, tall girl Ava Michelle is actually the same height as me (or so the official journalistic record now says, anyway, but you can’t argue with that).

When is it on and how can I watch it?

Tall Girl 2 is available to stream on Netflix from Friday 11 February 2022.

Is there a trailer?

Yes, there is. You can watch it – and see all the classic teen drama staples done at great height – right here.
