American Rust: who is in cast of Sky Atlantic drama with Maura Tierney, trailer, and how many episodes?

UK viewers are in for a ride with the newest crime thriller American Rust.

The show, which airs on Sky Atlantic, has been a hit with viewers so far and has some reminiscing on other shows such as Mare of Easttown.

But what exactly is the show about, who is in the cast and when do episodes air?

What is American Rust about?

The show is based on the acclaimed novel of the same name by Philipp Meyer and set in a Rust Belt town on southwest Pennsylvania.

It centres on comprised Chief of Police Del Harris, who questions how far he’ll go to protect those he loves after lie after the son of the woman he loves is accused of murder.

Who is in the cast of American Rust?

Jeff Daniels takes on the role of Del Harris in the show.

Daniels is perhaps best well-known to audiences for his turns in comedy film Dumb and Dumber and TV drama The Newsroom, but American Rust will see him flex his thriller credentials.

He is joined by Maura Tierney, of ER fame, who stars as Grace Poe, David Alvarez as Issac English and Bill Camp as Henry English.

Julia Mayorga, Alex Neustaedter, Mark Pellegrino and Rob Yang round out the main characters in the show.

Dallas Roberts, Clea Lewis, Nicole Chanel Williams and Federico Rodriguez join the cast as supporting characters.

How many episodes are there of American Rust?

The show is set to run for nine episodes.

The first two have already aired on UK television.

When is American Rust on TV?

American Rust, which was originally aired on Showtime in the USA, will be shown on Sky Atlantic in the UK.

The first two episodes aired on Sunday 28 November, beginning at 9pm.

Each week the airing will follow this format.

A double bill of episode three and four will air on Sunday 4 December, beginning at 9pm.

Will there be a second season of American Rust?

Currently there is no plans for a second season of the show.

The first season adapts the entire of Meyer’s novel, so if a second season was to be greenlit, the story would be continued with a no previous material.

However, the show does leave multiple questions open-ended so a second series may not be out of the question.

If it gets the go-ahead, going by filming schedules for season one, the earliest viewers can expect to see new episodes is June 2022.
