New documentary The Truth About Stalking - Tonight sheds light on BBC presenter Louise Minchin’s experience of being stalked
Who is Louise Minchin?
Louise Minchin worked for the BBC for 20 years, and on the network’s breakfast news show from 2012 to 2021.
The 53-year-old presenter and journalist was also recently a contestant on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! in which she finished seventh.
Minchin has worked on Radio Five Live, Missing Live, Sunday Life, Real Rescues, The One Show and she competed in Celebrity Masterchef in 2016.
She recently began hosting a podcast, Push Your Peak, in which she interviews superhuman athletes about how they achieve extraordinary things, such as Mark Beaumont who cycled around the world in 79 days.
She married David Minchin in 1998 and has two daughters Scarlett and Mia.
In 2020 Louise and her family had to deal with a case of stalking which is the subject of the new documentary TV show.
Who was Louise Minchin’s stalker Carl Davies?
Carl Davies is a 44-year-old who was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison after he stalked Louise and her daughter Mia who is aged 19.
Davies sent intimidating messages to Minchin via social media over a period of four days in July 2020.
The threats involved rape and violence towards the journalist and her teenage daughter.
Davies had information about Louise’s home address and continually threatened to know her whereabouts.
The police investigation into Davies’ behaviour lasted nine months.
This incident was not the first for Davies as he had previously stalked Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts.
When tried in court it was found that Davies suffered from PTSD which can be linked to his time serving with armed forces in Iraq.
As well as a prison sentence Davies is also bound to obey a restraining order.
In the new episode of Tonight, Minchin will share how this traumatising experience hurt her family and how they are still trying to recover.
