Countryfile star Matt Baker is back on our screens as he takes his parents on a caravan adventure in new More4 series, Matt Baker: Travels with Mum and Dad

It follows the success of More 4 show, Matt Baker: Our Farm on the Dales, about his move with his wife and children to his parents’ farm in Durham.

So when is the new series on TV, and what is it about?

Baker and his parents Mike and Janice will be taking their refurbished caravan on a breathtaking trip around the North East of England in the new show.

After years of demanding rural life, Matt is determined to give his parents a break from the farm and to create some new memories as a family.

Highlights from the programme see the family going behind the scenes at Bamburgh Castle, a visit to the famous Beamish Open Air Museum, as well as trips to Hexham Racecourse and Durham Cathedral.

Baker told Channel 4 “It’s been a joy taking Mum and Dad out for these trips around our beloved North East. We’ve made some great memories, met some wonderful people and I’m so proud of what we’ve all created together.”

Matt Baker took to his instagram to tease fans about the upcoming show, live from his family farm.

When can I watch Matt Baker: Travels with Mum and Dad?

The Bakers will be taking their epic road trip over the course of four, one-hour long episodes.

The series starts Wednesday 30 March on More4 and will be available to watch on the All4 catch-up service.

Who is Matt Baker?

Matt Baker is a 44-year-old British television personality.

Baker first appeared on our screens in 1999 when he joined the Blue Peter team, where he  stayed until 2006.

During his seven years on the programme Matt was awarded two Baftas in consecutive years for Best Children’s Presenter.

Baker used his farming background on the children’s programme as he introduced viewers to his experience training his new sheepdog Meg in 2000.

In 2009 Baker began hosting Countryfile on BBC One on a Sunday evening.

Baker then joined The One Show in 2010 as a guest presenter to cover for Jason Manford.

Once Manford resigned at the end of 2010 and Baker continued as a guest co-host before joining the team permanently alongside Alex Jones.

In December 2019, Baker emotionally told viewers that he would be leaving the show to help his parents on their farm.

Baker frequently appears as a presenter and commentator for sporting events such as the Olympics and the European Gymnastics championships.

In 2021 Baker and his family worked alongside Channel 4 on Matt Baker: Our Farm on the Dales, a documentary series about his family farm.

The two-series show follows the Bakers as they work together to ensure the future of their family farm and the challenges they face as a family.

Matt has been married to his wife Nicola since 2004 and they have two children together, Luke and Molly who are both teenagers.

Who are Matt Baker’s parents?

Mike, 78 and Janice, 66 have lived on their farm in the Durham Dales since Matt was young.

Matt made the move to the 100-acre farm after Janice was injured in a farm accident and broke her leg in the process.

With his mother unable to carry out any farm duties, the TV presenter moved his family of four from Hertfordshire to help on the family farm.

For the series Mike has refurbished his caravan that can be seen getting destroyed by a huge storm during the series.

Luckily locals came to the rescue of the family and helped the Bakers continue on their journey.

Executive producer Gareth Collette told Channel 4 “As a family, Matt, Mike and Janice Baker are all a real pleasure to film with. Their enthusiasm and passion for the North of England and the people who work and live there is a joy to see.”
