The Apprentice: Tom Allen reveals he's quit companion show You're Fired ahead of 20th series of BBC favourite
Comedian Tom Allen has revealed that he has stepped down as presenter of The Apprentice companion show You’re Fired.
Tom, 42, took to INstagram to break the news to his followers. He said in a post: “I have decided, after six years, to say goodbye to The Apprentice: You’re Fired. I have had so much fun working with the most incredible creative people to make it all happen.
“Thank you @lord_sugar @karren_brady_official @timcampbell_mbe for all their support and encouragement at every step and also thank you to each @apprenticeuk candidate and guest panelist who joined me in the studio.”
The funnyman added that “exciting things” were on the horizon, stating: “I shall be embarking on new voyages very soon...”
Tom joined the show as host in 2019, when he took over the role from fellow comic Rhod Gilbert. Other previous presenters include Adrian Chiles, Jack Dee, and Dara Ó Briain.
The Apprentice: You’re Fired normally airs on BBC Two, directly after every new episode of The Apprentice on BBC One. The show sees that week’s fired contestant sit down for a chat with Tom and a panel of celebrity fans to discuss their departure from the show.
The final episode of the series, dubbed ‘You’re Hired’, sees the eventual winner as well as Lord Alan Sugar making an appearance to discuss the series. Tom’s Apprentice co-stars sent messages of support after he revealed his departure from the companion show on social media.
Lord Sugar joked: “A pleasure to have worked with you over the last five series Tom, I didn't realise how funny you were 😉”
Lord Sugar’s aide Tim Campbell added: “Tom, it has been a real pleasure working with you. You brought warmth, wit and wicked whistles to the show and you will be genuinely missed🙏🏿 Wishing you every success on the next journey destination!”
It comes as the 20th series of The Apprentice prepares to hit screens at the end of January.
As of yet, a replacement for Tom on The Apprentice: You’re Hired has not been announced. However, the show is expected to return as usual following the launch of the new series of The Apprentice.
