No, the film is not based on a true story but it is based on a book.

Sarah Alderson wrote the book The Weekend Away in 2020 after she took a trip with her female friends.

Luckily for the author her travels were not similar to the ones she wrote for her characters.

She was inspired by female friendships and the life changes that women go through in their 20s and 30s.
