Vikings: Valhalla is set in the 11th century, 100 years after the events of the 2013 series Vikings. The new season follows Freydis and Harald in hiding in Scandinavia following the fall of Kattagat to Forkbeard’s forces.

The series will also follow the Vikings as they travel outside of Europe, encountering Muslims in the eastern world. Creator Jeb Stuart said: “The whole concept of Season 2 is that we take these three heroes who are in Scandinavia and blow them out of their comfort zones.

“Season 2 for Harald and Leif is a road trip: It’s Thelma and Louise on the Dnieper River. The two of them will begin this incredible journey. Freydís has to go to Pomerania, which is a very difficult environment.”

Valhalla season two landed on Netflix on Thursday 12 January - all of season one and two are available to watch now. However, the original series, Vikings, is not on Netflix. All of Vikings seasons 1-6 are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.

Will there be a third season of Vikings: Valhalla?

Yes, there will be a season three of Valhalla - Netflix initially commissioned three seasons of the Viking spin-off show, with eight episodes expected in each season. The show is expected to end with the Battle of Hastings in 1066 where William I will take the throne of England and become William the Conqueror. However, it has not yet been confirmed if Valhalla will continue for a fourth season.

The main cast from season two will be likely to return for season three including Taylor James, Sam Corlett, Frida Gustavsson, and Leo Sigurdsson. The character of William I has not yet been introduced and will likely arrive in season three.

A release date for season three has not yet been confirmed, but the series is in production. There were 11 months between the first and second season, so if season three comes after a similar break, it should arrive on Netflix in December 2023.
