Metal Hair Accessories

With the recent release of Emily in Paris’ latest season, it’s no surprise many are taking inspiration from the effortlessly chic ‘French girl’ aesthetic for the new season, specifically in the accessories department.

French pins, barrettes and even metal hair cuffs in gold, bronze or silver are fast becoming all the rage ahead of the cosy season, perfect for adding an extra touch of luxe to your locks.

This autumn, try adding a metal hair accessory to even simple hairstyles, such as low ponytails, buns or French twists, for an easy way to elevate the look and bring more sophistication to your style.

Effortless Waves

This autumn, we’re saying goodbye to the quaffed and blown out curls of yester-season in favour of low-key and low-effort styles. Beachy waves are making a comeback for the cooler season, with Google searches up 50 percent for ‘mermaid waves’ over the last three months.

Soft, effortless curls have been taking centre stage among celebrities, including Simone Ashley, Bella Hadid and even Sabrina Carpenter who has swapped her signature bouncy blow-out for more natural waves.

Those with natural waves will need to do little more than add a texturising spray or some curl cream to their locks to recreate the look, while others may need to use a heated hair waver tool or wide-barrelled curling wand. Alternatively, avoid heat altogether by plaiting hair overnight in loose braids and wake up to effortless waves.

The Butterfly Cut 2.0

Suki Waterhouse was recently spotted rocking a bohemian ‘butterfly cut’ when she took to the stage as a supporting act for Taylor Swift in London.

The 70s-inspired haircut surged in popularity last year and is favoured by celebrities such as Daisy Edgar Jones, Jenna Ortega, and most recently, Sabrina Carpenter.

We’re now seeing the look reach shorter ‘midi’ lengths, with searches for ‘short butterfly cut’ up 23 percent over the last three months. The more modern butterfly cut hits just below the collarbone, as spotted on influencer Matilda Djerf.

The trick to a successful butterfly cut is lots of hair. A lot of hair is needed to create the multiple layers and achieve the va-va-voom volume that is key to the butterfly cut, without the ends looking stringy. If you’re not blessed with an abundance of hair, you’ll need to invest in high-quality hair extensions before attempting this cut.

Teddy Blonde

This autumn is all about banishing brassy blonde in favour of softer, more subtle ‘teddy blonde’, which has jumped a staggering 3,900 percent in Google searches over the last three months.

The name ‘teddy blonde’ or ‘teddy bear blonde’ refers to the unique mushroom-tinged shade of blonde usually found on teddy bears, and now this hue is making its way into salons.

The shade is ideal for those after a more neutral blonde tone that isn’t too cool or too warm. And, as teddy blonde looks best mixed with lowlights and a root smudge, it’s also the perfect transitional shade for blondes looking to try out a darker colour for autumn without the commitment.
