Costa del Sol: British man, 23, arrested for attempted murder after young man stabbed several times in Benalmadena

A 23-year-old man, believed to be British, has been arrested in Costa del Sol in Spain for alleged attempted murder on May 16. The detained young man, who has provisionally been remanded in custody without bail, allegedly stabbed another person of the same age during a brawl in the popular holiday destination Benalmádena in Puerto Banus. 

The Sur in English reports that the victim was rushed to hospital in a critical condition after the attack. He suffered stab injuries and a complete severing of the femoral vein.

He is still hospitalised but has now been transferred from the intensive care unit to a general ward. According to SUR sources, the background to the violent incident is suspected to be related to drug trafficking.

The incident occurred at around 7am in Solymar square and led to the opening of an investigation. The perpetrator had fled the scene before the first police arrived and officers found the victim lying on the ground with several stab wounds.

Enquiries carried out on the ground found the assailant to be an English-speaking person. The investigators of the UDEV serious crime squad managed to put a name to him and verified that the suspect has a previous record for crimes of a similar nature.

According to the National Police the man under investigation is a British citizen based in Benalmádena and he was arrested as he was leaving his home. His home was searched and the clothing worn by him on the day of the incident was seized.
