Teenager in court charged with murder after death of 14-year-old boy in Glasgow

A teenager has appeared in court charged with murder after the death of a 14-year-old boy.

Justin McLaughlin was found seriously injured at High Street railway station in Glasgow at around 3.45pm on Saturday (16 October).

He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police launched a murder inquiry after Justin’s death.

Now a 16-year-old boy has appeared in private at Glasgow Sheriff Court in connection with the matter.

The boy, who can’t be named for legal reasons, is facing a charge of murder as well as assault to severe injury.

He is also charged with having a blade in a public place , having an offensive weapon, and behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.

Teenager expected to appear in court again next week

He made no plea and the case was committed for further examination, with the boy remanded in custody.

The teen is expected to appear in court again within the next week.

After Justin’s death, James McParland, Justin’s headmaster at St Ambrose High School in Coatbridge, paid tribute to Justin, saying: “The community of St Ambrose High School is shocked and saddened by the death of Justin McLaughlin.

“Justin was a valued member of our community and his loss will be felt by staff and pupils alike.

He added that the school’s “prayers and thoughts are with his family and friends.”
