Wordle has become a global phenomenon since the start of 2022, with millions of players taking part every day.

The simple word game, where you have a maximum of six attempts to guess a five letter word, has also taken the UK by storm - spawning spin-off games like Quordle, Heardle and Nerdle.

But given we live in a society where we binge everything we enjoy, be that a TV series like Peaky Blinders or a video game like Horizon Forbidden West, Wordle’s success is perhaps a little unusual.

Just one new Wordle puzzle is released every 24 hours, meaning you can only officially play once a day.

So what time does Wordle reset - and does it happen at the same every day?

Here’s everything you need to know.

When does Wordle reset?

The million dollar question if you’re a Wordle fanatic is when you can expect the next puzzle to land.

Just one Wordle game is released every day and it is the same for everyone, regardless of whether you live in London or Rio de Janeiro.

It doesn’t reset once you’ve finished playing it - rather, it automatically resets every day in the UK at midnight.

As it happens on UK time, when the reset takes place depends on where in the world you play Wordle.

So, for example, if you’re on New York, Washington DC or Boston time (US Eastern Standard Time), the game will reset at 7pm.

If you’re in Tokyo (Japanese Standard Time) a new game becomes available at 9am every day - tragically missing most people’s commute time.

However, if you want to play the game more frequently than once a day, there is a way.

Wordle addict and academic Devang Thakkar has created Wordle Archive - a site where you can play old games.

Given there have been almost 300 puzzles so far, that should keep you entertained for at least a few days, possibly weeks.

Where can you play Wordle?

However, it has been kept ad-free in line with its creator Josh Wardle’s principals, making it an unusual haven of word-related calm in an internet that’s usually awash with marketing.

Mr Wardle has previously ruled out turning the game into a smartphone app because, as he told BBC Radio 4 earlier in 2022, he’s “suspicious” of apps’ attention-grabbing mechanisms, like push notifications.

As well as keeping it off iOS and Android, he has also ensured that the game does not harvest any of its players’ data.

If that appeals to you, it might be worth avoiding some of the imitator websites that have sprung up and claim to offer the game for free.
