US comedian Bob Saget died from an accidental blow to the head, his family said in a statement.

The Full House star was found dead on 9 January in a hotel apartment in Orlando, Florida, after he had performed in the area the night before as part of a stand-up tour.

He had just begun his new 2022 I Don’t Do Negative Comedy Tour and had earlier tweeted about his delight at being back performing.

US authorities determined that Saget, 65, suffered a head trauma after hitting the back of his head on an unknown object before going to sleep.

In a statement issued on Wednesday (9 February), his family said: “Now that we have the final conclusions from the authorities’ investigation, we felt it only proper that the fans hear those conclusions directly from us.

“The authorities have determined that Bob passed from head trauma.

“They have concluded that he accidentally hit the back of his head on something, thought nothing of it and went to sleep.

“No drugs or alcohol were involved.

“As we continue to mourn together, we ask everyone to remember the love and laughter that Bob brought to this world, and the lessons he taught us all: to be kind to everyone, to let the people you love know you love them, and to face difficult times with hugs and laughter.”

Last month, officers from Orange County Sheriff’s Office were called following reports of an unresponsive man at the Ritz-Carlton hotel.

Saget was identified and pronounced dead at the scene, and the force said no signs of foul play were found.

Saget was best known for his role as single dad Danny Tanner on the sitcom Full House, which also starred John Stamos and Dave Coulier as Danny’s brother-in-law, uncle Jesse, and his friend Joey, played by Coulier.

Its sequel, Fuller House, was released on Netflix in 2016.

He also hosted America’s Funniest Home Videos in the ‘90s and provided the voice for future Ted Mosby on How I Met Your Mother.

An outpouring of grief followed news of his passing last month, with fellow comedians and family members, both on and off-screen, paying tribute to the star.

His wife Kelly Rizzo, 42, described him as “the best man I’ve ever known” while his daughter, Lara Saget, said her father “loved with everything he had”.

Full House cast members, including Stamos, said in a joint statement that they would “grieve as a family” following the news.
