A timeline of Prince Harry and Prince William’s relationship as a reconciliation might be permanently ‘off'

Although King Charles reportedly spoke to his youngest son Prince Harry ahead of his decision to attend the coronation, no conversation was said to have taken place between the two brothers. Moreover, according to The Guardian, “Rupert Murdoch’s media business secretly paid Prince William a “very large sum of money “ to quietly settle a phone-hacking claim, according to new court filings.

The fact that ‘details’ of this settlement have emerged from documents submitted by Prince Harry will do nothing to ameliorate the situation between the brothers. On the contrary, it only highlights what seems to be what can only be described as a continuing growing gulf that seems at present, irreparable.

2011

The Independent detailed that According to Prince Harry’s memoir Sparre, “It was William’s marriage to Kate Middleton in April 2011 that marked the beginning of the end for the siblings.”

In his memoir, Prince Harry wrote: “The brother I’d escorted into Westminster Abbey that morning was gone- forever. Who could deny it?” Harry then went on to say: “I recall Willy walking her back up the aisle, and as they disappeared through the door, into the carriage that would convey them to Buckingham Palace, into the eternal partnership they’d pledged, I recall thinking: Goodbye.”

The single word, 'Goodbye’ that Harry wrote in ‘Spare,’ is incredibly poignant and obviously reflected how he saw in many ways that as much as Prince William’s wedding to Kate was a new beginning for his oldest brother, it meant in turn an ‘end’ to their close brotherly partnership. 

2018

Seven years later, and a lot had changed. Not only was Prince William married, but Prince Harry had found a wife in Meghan Markle. According to reports, Prince Harry was said to have not been happy about how his wife was welcomed into the family. 

In Touch wrote that “Around Christmas time that year, “They had a bit of a fallout which was only resolved when (King) Charles stepped in and asked William to make an effort.” 

Despite spending Christmas together, rumours of a fall out began when a video surfaced which appeared to show Prince William looking like he was ‘ignoring’ Meghan Markle.

It was also thought that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to move from London to Frogmore Castle at Windsor Castle might have been because they no longer wanted to live in close proximity to Prince William and Kate Middleton. 

2019

I remember watching the interview Meghan Markle and Prince Harry did with Tom Bradby in the ITV documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey and being a little taken aback by his ‘honesty.’ 

When he was asked by Tom Bradby about his relationship with Prince William, Harry said: “We are certainly on different paths at the moment but I will always be there for him as I know he will always be there for me.”

2020

Although it was considered quite the ‘bombshell’ moment when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced that they were stepping back as senior working royals, in many ways, it wasn’t a ‘bombshell’ as the relationship between Prince Harry and Prince William was continuing to deteriorate.

2021

Without question, it was the sit down interview Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did with Oprah Winfrey that signalled ‘The beginning of the end’ it would seem between relations between the brothers. 

Although they did come together for the unveiling of a statue to their mother, Princess Diana, at Kensington Palace and were at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee together, relations had not improved.

2022

2022 was a significant year for Prince William and Prince Harry’s relationship. Although there were ‘hopes’ of the fab four being seen back together for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth 11, this instead of bringing them together only seemed to highlight their differences too.

The release of their Harry & Meghan Netflix docuseries on Netflix seemed to be the final straw for the brothers until….

2023

When Prince Harry’s memoir Spare was released and intimate details were released about the brothers’ relationship and a physical fight occurring between the two, many thought there could be no way back for the pair…

With the news now that Prince Harry is intending to be quite literally ‘in and out’ of the coronation, it is likely that the brothers will not even cross paths. The pair are said to be seated far apart and not likely to run into each other.
